The Singapore River . The Singapore River has a great historical Importance. It flows from the central area before emptying into the ocean . Nearly all land surrounding the Singapore River is commercial . It is one of about 90 rivers in Singapore and its island and the most famous river in Singapore . It is the place also where Raffles made as the 1sttrading port in Singapore .
Later we headed over to Cavenagh Bridge , named after Singapore's last governor. Constructed in 1868 , the bridge proudly wear its original splendour , and is currently open only to foot traffic.
Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles, FRS(6 July 1781 – 5 July 1826) was a British statesman, best known for his founding of the city of Singapore (now the city-state of the Republic of Singapore). He is often described as the "Father of Singapore". He was also heavily involved in the conquest of the Indonesian island of Java from Dutch and French military forces during the Napoleonic Wars and contributed to the expansion of the British Empire. He was also an amateur writer and wrote a book entitled History of Java (1817).
After going to Boat Quay I went to the Merlion park. Half lion half fish Merlion brings to mind the legendary lion spotted by sang nila utama. The lion head symbolises the legend of the rediscovery of Singapura as recorded in the " Malay Annals". The fish tail sybolises the ancient city of Temasek and represents Singapore's humble beginnings as a fishing village. I enjoyed the sea breeze very much and was amazed at the tall structure.
We've learnt lots of thing during this trip, such as the history, of the sculptures. They are all very interesting. If there's a second chance to get there as a trip again, I would like to go again !
